The Ontario Hunter Jumper Association (OHJA) was formed in 1994 as a result of the growth of the horse industry.   Up until that time Ontario Equestrian offices functioned as the administrative facility for the hunter/jumper community of the province.  All other breed and disciplines had a provincial organization in place which dealt with their specific issues.  The OE Board of Directors, by formal motion, required the hunter/jumper community to establish their own association.

One of the essential mandates passed on to the new organization was the responsible and unbiased maintenance of a point system for annual awards.  Equestran Canada continues to be responsible for national programs such as U25, Rules, Officials as well as allocation of competition dates.  

The OHJA is a member association of Ontario Equestrian.   It is funded by annual memberships administered by an elected Board of Directors. Hunter, Equitation, and Jumper programs are developed and maintained by the OHJA and include the Provincial Annual Awards program and the maintenance of a point system used to determine OHJA Year End Awards. The Hunter/Equitation Committee, Jumper Committee and Banquet committees all work together to maintain and implement the programs designed each year.  Information to the membership is shared through our website, social media channels and InGate digital magazine.
